Honda FCX Goes to a 17-Year Old Customer

A production model of the Honda FCX fuel cell vehicle has been given to its new owner. American Honda Motor Co., Inc gave the keys to 17-year old actress Q'orianka Kilcher, the newest and youngest owner of the Honda FCX. For those of you who don't know who she is, Q'orianka Kilcher was the young actress who portrayed the role of Pocahontas/Rebecca in the film "The New World" released in 2005.

John Mendel, Senior Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., Inc commented:
"The best way to demonstrate the importance of next generation vehicles like the Honda FCX is to put the next generation of drivers behind the wheel. Q'orianka Kilcher will be driving around Hollywood in the ultimate environmental status symbol, literally and figuratively driving the change toward a hydrogen future."

Q'orianka Kilcher was excited in having her new car and said:
"As a young person today, I feel it is important to take initiative toward seeking positive solutions and stepping up the quest toward clean energy and environmental preservation. "When I first started pursuing my dream of a zero emissions vehicle as my first car, it seemed like a pretty unrealistic dream. With Honda's innovation and support, my dream of helping the environment became a reality!"

The first Honda FCX concept made its debut at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show with the newly developed compact and high-efficient fuel cell stack called the Honda FC Stack. The fuel cell stack functions as the storage room for hydrogen fuel. The Honda FCX is also equipped with a lithium-ion battery for additional energy storage. The production model still retains this powertrain parts but the overall appearance of the Honda FCX was changed. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified the Honda FCX as a zero emission vehicle, and approved for everyday use. Honda aims to mass produce the FCX fuel cell vehicle in the worldwide market and introduce it as the next generation vehicle.
